Burroughs Students Say ‘Thank You’

“At Burroughs, I have been able to do so much and learn so much! For instance, I never had any artistic ability before JBS, but now I take fine arts classes every year, have learned to love them and have seen my ability grow tremendously. I also started lacrosse at Burroughs, which I never played before in my life. Now I have teammates that I adore and a skill I did not have before. Even before Burroughs, I loved literature and writing. I must confess, I had a little ego about my writing abilities, but here I realized that I had so much more to learn and plenty of room to grow as a writer. I have devoted, passionate teachers to thank for that. The teachers here never cease to amaze me. I have made some very close bonds with several teachers—it’s not just a job for them. They truly care about us as individuals, this place and their subjects. Never have I been in such an accepting and close environment. The teachers and their advice, their anecdotes and their general wisdom have been a godsend for a girl like me who entered new territory at Burroughs.”

“JBS has taught me to be hardworking and to be my best self in everything I do. For example, it can be conditioning as hard as I can every single practice so that I’m ready for my third opponent in overtime at a wrestling meet. Or it could be doing the homework not just to completion, but to understanding nearly every night so that during finals, I’m not overwhelmed by all the material. Learning to rise to the occasion and be my best self not just when I’m at 100 percent but when I’m at my weakest is a priceless lesson. Thank you for funding my wonderful education at a school that surrounds me with values, opportunities and greatness.”

“I am very appreciative of my scholarship. It has allowed me to excel at chemistry, algebra, baseball, violin, basketball, physics and more. Burroughs has given me the encouragement to improve, and has introduced me to many new ideas and opportunities. This is a great community and culture and I am proud to be a part of it.”

“By attending Burroughs, I am able to pursue my many interests, including computer programming and science. Without you, I wouldn’t have an amazing school in which to pursue my interests. The scholarship means the world to me. It is the greatest gift I have ever received and I will treasure it forever. Thank you so much!”

“My intentions for my upcoming six years at Burroughs are to find out who I am and what I want to be. People at Burroughs encourage me to feel comfortable to be my sometimes weird, wacky and corny self. Burroughs is the best place to be for a kind and welcoming feeling every time you walk through the door.”

“I have loved my time here at JBS, and look forward to making the most of my last year and a half here. I cannot express my gratitude enough, as your generosity has given me countless amazing, diverse opportunities. I am fortunate to be a member of the Burroughs community for the rest of my life now, and this is possible because of you.”

“Senior year has been well worth the wait. I love sitting in the Commons and in the front of Haertter Hall, although it does feel strange to be one of the oldest students in school. Overall, I feel as if I’ve truly taken advantage of my last year. I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and made a lot of new friends within my own class. I can’t thank you enough for your generosity!”
